Of the three teams I've reviewed, this is the one poised to make the quickest move back into respectability. You don't win without a superstar in this league, and Matthews is already a superstar and looks poised to plant himself in the top 5 every year. Mittelstadt has the potential to be very good as well. Great supporting cast in DeBrincat and Reinhart, who will be lining up next to a very good centre for a very long time. The rest of the pieces are serviceable, but there's room to grow in this forward group.

Adam Henrique is a fan favourite and GMMS might be well advised to bring him back someday, but for now he's gotta go back in the pile so to make room for the youngsters. He just needs to give guys like Zacha one more chance to be good. I predict that after a trade deadline move, he is the first handoff when captain Matthews lifts the Krusell Cup in 2021. The crowd goes wild. Time to say goodbye to Carey Price too. The Habs are in the wilderness.

The defence worries me. There's no game breaker here. Yandle's best days are behind him. Fowler and Ekblad, you love them on your real team but they don't butter the bread in our format. I don't see anyone with long term championship upside, although Chychrun is worth keeping around to have a better look (enough that I'd drop Chytil, who I don't think will be a gamebreaker). If there's only a potential generational defenceman available at second overall. Can't think of one. GMMS needs another good draft but this team is trending up in a hurry.

Projected finish: 10th
