Transactions

Two trades to announce:

01/19/2011 TRADE

St. Jewish Blues to Milan Micahleks:
D Bryan McCabe

Milan Micahleks to St. Jewish Blues:
D Zach Bogosian

Milan Micahleks to G-Phil's Flyers
D Bryan McCabe
F Tim Connolly

G-Phil's Flyers to Milan Micaleks:
D Andrew MacDonald (in lieu of Kurtis Foster)
F Nikolai Zherdev

Analysis: SJ Blues get all-star prospect Bogosian. Micah sheds tear for Bogo, realizes he doesn't want Bryan McCabe, deals to G-Phil. G-Phil gets Connolly, gives almost nothing. Micah gets MacDonald. Micah likah the Islanders.

01/17/2011 TRADE

Powder Rangers to Schizzarks:
F Erik Cole
F Tomas Kopecky (in lieu of Mike Comrie)
F Teddy Purcell

 Schizzarks to Powder Rangers:
F Kyle Okposo (in lieu of Tomas Holmstrom)
F Jamie Langenbrunner
F Magnus Paajarvi
Conditional draft pick*

*If Powder Rangers retain Okposo on their 2011 protected roster, the Schizzark's 5th round pick. If not, the Schizzark's 3rd round pick.

Analysis: Those few GMs left in the running are proving willing to pay a hefty price for marginal scoring help, and Powder is taking full advantage. A support group has formed for GMs that feel they were taken advantage of. Also, Powder has made so many moves this year that when I click his name to expand his roster, it almost takes up my entire screen.

  1. These trades confuse me a lot. Why pick up McCabe - he's out for weeks? especially when he's on your SR?

Powder wins that trade + picks up a pick + gets the best player in the deal (Okposo)... not sure what Shizz is thinking - only good thing he gets out of it is Kopecky

Josh actually steals this deal. Trades a dman who's out for a while for one who's healthy...

Some of you guys want to explain? Is this just for added scoring depth - because it adds very minor improvements (if that)...

  2. I actually had no idea McCabe was injured when I acquired him or when I dealt him.

  3. Explanation:

I needed a Holmstrom (injury) replacement and some protection at the bottom of my roster so I get Cole and Kopecky. Plus Purcell for Langenbrunner was necessary for pickup numbers and frankly doesn't matter to either of us much.

Eric got Paajarvi who I couldn't have protected as a keeper, Holmstrom (picks up Okposo), and Langenbrunner plus a conditional pick.

Basically, Eric likely gets a slight edge on the bet because Okposo was expected to come back mid february not tomorrow and is likely a keeper for him. I knew Okposo was out there so i leveraged it for the conditional pick rather than a straight 3rd round. Okposo injured didn't help me in the short run, I needed uninjured players with some potential for a strong second half (Cole had been the best player on his team in the last month playing top line in Carolina) and again would have had trouble protecting Okposo as one of my 10. Now that he's back next game it might have changed things.

Basically, I got what I needed out of the deal and lost no keepers. Likely lost a 5th round pick. In return I got two players who now on the edge of my scoring roster but have a lot of potential for a strong last half of the season. Both Cole and Kopecky will get more points than anyone I traded away.

Eric probably gets a bit more out of the deal because of the pick but he had the leverage to do so.

  4. And I realize how atrocious the grammar in that comment was but I wrote it in 30 seconds and don't give a shit today.

  5. I think your trade makes sense for you Schizz and will help you, but it doesn't change the fact that Powder took advantage of your situation.

  6. I say my deal with Micah was fundamentally breached. I demand a compensatory first round pick!

Fuck you and your caveat emptor. There's no latin in hockey!

  7. Now I just have to try to flip Okposo to Micah, who wildly overvalues Islander prospects...
